—TITLE TRANSFERS—

After you purchase a vehicle or vessel from a private party or get it as a gift, you have 15 days to transfer the ownership into your name. All persons who wish to be on the title need to be present at the time of the transfer, or have a notarized title application with their signature. If you don’t transfer within the 15 days there is a penalty of $50 on the 16th day and it goes up $2.00 per day until it reaches the maximum of $125.00. We will collect the sales tax for DOR, so at the time of transfer you will be paying for: title transfer, license tabs, plates, and sales tax.

If you purchased it from a WA state dealer they are required to take care of the title transfer, if you have questions call your dealership and ask to speak directly to the title clerk about this. If you bought it from an out of state dealer you will need to take care of the transfer.

If your vehicle was: sold, traded in, gifted, donated, or turned into a scrap yard, you are required to file a report of sale, this is $5.00 to file in office, this report notifies the state that you are not responsible for anything that happens with that vehicle after that date.

 

TITLE TRANSFER IN OFFICE:

Documentation that you’ll need for a title transfer when you come into our office:

• A signed off title, or MSO
• Bill of sale or purchase agreement from a dealership
• Odometer disclosure if the vehicle is 10 years old or newer
• Unexpired WA driver’s license or state issued ID

• Signed of Title or MSO (manufacturers statement of origin)
• Notarized signatures on the title application form
• Federal odometer disclosure statement signed by the buyer and the seller
  (if applicable)
• Bill of sale, or a purchase agreement from the dealership
• Washington Department of Revenue Tax Number are needed for leased vehicles
• Unexpired WA driver’s license or state issued ID
